Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD-Who wins anyway?

April 29th, 2008 by admin

I think that most of us remember the battle between Beta and VHS video format. How many of you were left with Beta format videos that you could no longer play? Well I was one of those consumers. No doubt the days of video have long since been surpassed by the DVD player, and of course the HD-DVD. Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t get cramped, get crimped!

April 11th, 2008 by admin

Well the debate continues to rage on here in our repair shop, but I still think that I have the best opinion (For what it matters) when it comes to crimper’s and crimping die sets. When you get to be my age, when the arthritis begins to set into the joints and fingers, then my vote goes to the Pro’s Kit Crimp Pro frame. Read the rest of this entry »

The diode (rectifier) debate

April 8th, 2008 by admin

There are many times I am asked about the voltage drop that the diode produces for the 82 volt lamps used in most of today’s Overhead Projectors. Ratchet or no ratchet, that is the question!

April 3rd, 2008 by admin

When it comes to crimping tools we have many opinions in our repair shop. Myself, I like the ratcheted type crimper’s while some of our older technicians here prefer the non ratcheted type crimper’s.

Just seems to me that when you can use a crimper that takes the strain off of your hand when crimping connectors onto cables and other wires, that there really is no choice. When we have crimping projects here at M-B Electronics, we are usually doing things in large volume. Using a ratcheted style crimper just makes more sense to me.

Some of our technicians find theses types of crimper to be cumbersome to work with, but my experience has been more hand strain when working with crimping tools that don’t have a ratcheting type handle.

I guess it’s just personal preference, but my vote goes for what ever makes the job a little easier on my hands!
